About Me
About Me

I was born in Harrismith, South Africa in 1975. At the age of 4 I moved to Durban where I was exposed to the Zulu nation & its culture. I became fascinated with the influence the Western world has had on this culture & because of this fascination, depicted the influence of the West on Africa in a collection of oil paintings.

In 1990 I moved to Johannesburg and matriculated in 1992. I studied art at school but am mainly self taught.

I moved back to Durban after matric and supported myself through art while studying photography at Technikon Natal.

By 1995 – the year my daughter was born – I was well acquainted with the usual art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, sculpture & mosaics. I became intrigued with living, moving art & decided to take this further. So I apprenticed in the art of tattooing & became a tattoo artist.

This inspired me to produce a collection of paintings inspired by different tattoo styles.

In 2001 I moved back to Johannesburg where I currently reside and continue to explore the world of art, expanding my knowledge of media.

In 2013 I joined the Superblur Art movement & continue to produce works true to the movement. (See Superblur Art Movement Manifesto.)

My works either feature around livingness & my abhorrence of injustice & inequality, around fun, naughtiness & the spirit of play or around abstract subjects, the likes of thought, emotion & philosophy. I have a firm belief that life is serious business & should be taken seriously; but one should never, ever be serious about it!

Drop me a line. I live and work in Johannesburg, South Africa. But I can travel. :-)

Superblur Manifesto
  1. Superblur refers to a method of creating art using the definition of the word "blur".
  2. The goal of the artist is to make the subject or classification of the artwork unclear or less distinct.
  3. Superblur is also about elements that cannot be seen or heard clearly.
  4. When photography is used as a medium, the camera is manipulated or shaken to blur the image.
  5. Elements of art movements eg Superflat, Superstroke, Cubism, Expressionism, etc., will be blurred to create a Superblur artwork.
  6. A barcode, or a representation of a barcode, in an artwork produced according to the Superblur Manifesto makes the artwork distinguishable to this movement.

Quote

"When I'm playful I use the meridians of longitude and parallels of latitude for a seine, and drag the Atlantic Ocean for whales. I scratch my head with the lightning and purr myself to sleep with the thunder."
