Shani Fine Art displays some of my work to illustrate the range and style of art I involve myself with. Original artworks are for sale and there are a limited edition of prints of most of the paintings and drawings. I also do commissions. Drop me a line. I live and work in Johannesburg, South Africa; but I can travel or my work can be shipped. Use the About Me button above to contact me :-)
I was born in Harrismith, South Africa in 1975. At the age of 4 I moved to Durban where I was exposed to the Zulu nation & its culture. I became fascinated with the influence the Western world has had on this culture & because of this fascination, depicted the influence of the West on Africa in a collection of oil paintings.
In 1990 I moved to Johannesburg and matriculated in 1992. I studied art at school but am mainly self taught.
I moved back to Durban after matric and supported myself through art while studying photography at Technikon Natal.
By 1995 – the year my daughter was born – I was well acquainted with the usual art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, sculpture & mosaics. I became intrigued with living, moving art & decided to take this further. So I apprenticed in the art of tattooing & became a tattoo artist.
This inspired me to produce a collection of paintings inspired by different tattoo styles.
In 2001 I moved back to Johannesburg where I currently reside and continue to explore the world of art, expanding my knowledge of media.
In 2013 I joined the Superblur Art movement & continue to produce works true to the movement. (See Superblur Art Movement Manifesto.)
My works either feature around livingness & my abhorrence of injustice & inequality, around fun, naughtiness & the spirit of play or around abstract subjects, the likes of thought, emotion & philosophy. I have a firm belief that life is serious business & should be taken seriously; but one should never, ever be serious about it!
Drop me a line. I live and work in Johannesburg, South Africa. But I can travel. :-)
"When I'm playful I use the meridians of longitude and parallels of latitude for a seine, and drag the Atlantic Ocean for whales. I scratch my head with the lightning and purr myself to sleep with the thunder."
